Beckah's Bangin' Butter Startup Business

Beckah's Bangin' Butter is a small business venture I started with a friend in the Boston area in 2015. The way it came about stemmed from my friend selling 10-20 jars of almond butter a week at church. She described it as a hobby, I told her that was a business.  From deciding on the name, to designing the logo, the website and creating the messaging and go to market strategy this business is where I consider creating my start in marketing.  

The Brand

I wanted to create a brand that was warm and felt like home. For the logo I created a heart out of two almonds, a unique design that would become the staple for the brand. The design is simple and easy to remember. The name was also something we played with for a while but going with the alliteration angle you truly cannot help but smile when saying the name. 100% nutty came along as the underscoring message to highlight the pureness of the ingredients in the product.

Selling 16oz for $16

 This product was not only organic but also vegan and so I wanted to be sure we were also selling in the right places and at the right price. I am pretty sure Beckah's mouth hit the floor when I suggest the $16 price tag. After evaluating the market and comparing our almond butter to others there was no comparison when it came to the ingredients. This almond butter was high end, the little indulgence you splurge on for yourself or your kids and feel good about buying because it is healthy.  For our selling strategy we started out in farmer markets across the state with plans of expanding into local markets and eventually local grocery stores. 

Community Engagement

I wanted to create a local brand where people could share and connect around the product. To encourage this I started a recipe of the month program where customers could submit a recipes to be featured on the Facebook page and in the newsletter.
